Ring in the New Year at Perry’s Buzzard Drop

Every town has its traditions, and here in Middle Georgia, we like to welcome the new year with something a little different. If you haven’t experienced Perry’s annual Buzzard Drop yet, consider this your sign to put it on your holiday calendar. It’s fun, it’s unexpected, and it’s one of the best examples of what makes our community so special.

The Buzzard Drop is Perry’s twist on the classic New Year’s Eve countdown. Instead of watching a glittering ball fall on a screen, we gather downtown to watch a glowing “buzzard” make its way down at midnight. This year’s celebration takes place December 31, 2025, from 8:00 pm to 12:00 am, right in the heart of downtown. The event is hosted by the City of Perry, and whether you’re a local or planning to visit, it’s one of those can’t-miss nights that remind you why this area feels like home.

If you’re planning to go this year, here’s what you can expect:

A Full Evening of Fun

Spend New Year's Eve in Downtown Perry, Georgia

The streets come alive long before the countdown. You’ll find live music, great food, local vendors, and plenty of family-friendly activities. One of my favorite parts of the night is the kiddie countdown at 9:00 pm, perfect for little ones who want to be part of the excitement without staying up until midnight.

One of the things I love about the Buzzard Drop is how welcoming it is for everyone. You’ll see families with strollers, groups of teenagers having a blast downtown, and adults grabbing a warm drink while they wait for the big moment. It’s just lively enough and easy to enjoy at your own pace.

If you’ve been looking for a more relaxed, local alternative to high-traffic New Year’s events, this is the place to be.

Stay Close and Make a Night of It

Because this is a street party that runs right up to midnight, the city encourages everyone to arrive and leave responsibly by staying nearby if possible. Perry has several lodging options close to the event. You can find a full list here: visitperry.com/stay

If you’re coming in from out of town, this is the perfect excuse to enjoy a cozy overnight stay and explore more of downtown Perry the next morning.

Supporting Local Means Everything

Events like this don’t just happen! They’re a labor of love from our community and local businesses. By showing up, grabbing dinner downtown, or buying a hot chocolate from a vendor, you’re directly supporting the heart of Perry.

And I have to say, Middle Georgia really shines when we all show up for one another.
